Introduction
CloudStack is an Infrastructure as a Service provided to University of Calgary researchers to allow them to quickly deploy Virtual Machines to support short term projects.
Researchers have a great degree of freedom in how they use CloudStack. As such, they are solely responsible for maintaining any VMs they deploy.
CloudStack is a research environment. It is not intended for long term resilient service.
Rules
To help us to continue to provide this service, we ask you to please follow these basic rules:
- Please stay abreast of security updates for your OS and apply them.
- Backup your data (RCS does not provide backups).
- Do not run Windows (Our infrastructure is not licensed to run Windows).
- Remember that the University's "Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources and Information Policy" found here: https://www.ucalgary.ca/legal-services/university-policies-procedures/ applies to your work using a VM.
- This environment is only rated to handle Level 1 and Level 2 data. Please see "Information Security Classification Standard" found here: https://www.ucalgary.ca/legal-services/university-legal-services/operating-standards-guidelines-forms for more details.
- A CloudStack environment is limited to one year.
Important notes
Please note that in the event of a security incident IT Security will shutdown affected VMs.
